I can’t tell you how many “Toys R Us” dining rooms I’ve been in! Young families in a new house usually leave this room last to decorate. And what a convenient playroom it is –too bad it is usually right off the foyer and one of the first things a guest in your home sees! A dining room is a great place to try a bolder wall color, with windows, a mirror and a china cabinet against one wall, a darker color won’t overpower. Shades of blues or greens are particularly nice, bringing out the beauty of wood. I try to introduce some fabric in the dining room because there is too much wood otherwise. Try comfy upholstered chairs instead of the suite chairs that are shown with the set. Drapery panels in a novelty sheer or multi purpose weight fabric will soften the look and make it a room you’ll enjoy every day. An area rug under the table, a scrunchie on the chandelier cord will further soften the look. |
