Kids Bedrooms

Kids will be kids, and they have a tendency to be rough on furniture. Invest in better quality chests, dressers and desks that will hold up to stuffing too many sweatshirts in a drawer and forcing it shut, better finishes that can be wiped often. An extra hundred dollars is huge in terms of the better construction it buys on a dresser and will pay dividends five years down the road.

For an older child, their room can be an important expression of their personality. My high school freshman announced to me a few weeks ago that the hearts and ladybugs in her bedroom looked “like something Rachel (my ten year old niece) would have.” Come to think of it, she was Rachel’s age when we last decorated her room. Big difference between the taste of a ten year old and a fourteen year old, they grow up too fast! We made a deal, she keeps her bed made and clothes off the floor for a month, and the retro room with polka dot walls and new comforter is our next decorating project!
