Leather

In selecting the best leather for a piece of upholstery, consider the importance of supple feel vs. performance. The leathers with a luxurious “hand” (how it feels to the touch) are usually “naked”. This means protective coatings and processes to fill scars and imperfections have left the leather vulnerable to absorbing body oils and stains. They are closer to there natural state, hand selected and more expensive.

To leather experts, “better” does not mean “looks great longer”; this is where I see the most confusion. Another common misconception is the comfort of leather on hot days. Many confuse it with vinyl, or worse yet, black vinyl car upholstery in a parking lot on a 90-degree day. Leather breathes and adapts to the room temperature. Supple, unprotected leather in an air-conditioned room will not stick to the back of your legs.
